Meta unveiled its first smart glasses with a built-in AR display, the Ray-Ban Meta Display, featuring projection on the lens, camera, speakers, mic, and gesture control via a Neural Band wristband. Priced around $799, launching September 30 in the U.S.
Also announced were the Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses for athletes and a 2nd-generation Ray-Ban Meta with improved battery and camera.
Other highlights included the Horizon TV hub for Quest headsets (streaming Disney+, Blumhouse, and more) and new AI-powered tools for creators to build virtual worlds.
China’s Cyberspace Administration (CAC) has barred major domestic tech firms like Alibaba and ByteDance from buying new Nvidia AI chips, including the RTX Pro 6000D and H20.
Beijing claims that its homegrown AI processors (from companies like Huawei and Cambricon) now rival the performance of Nvidia’s restricted products.
Chinese chip makers are accelerating domestic production in anticipation of increased demand from companies that can no longer procure Nvidia hardware.
Meta introduced “Hyperscape,” a tech that lets users scan real-world rooms (in a few minutes) and convert them into photorealistic virtual replicas.
This feature, called Hyperscape Capture, is in early access for Quest 3/3S headset owners (18+), but rendering takes a few hours.
At launch, users cannot invite others into their digitized spaces, though private sharing is planned. Meta also announced new VR games and Horizon TV streaming partnerships with Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu.
Google Discover will begin showing social media content such as posts from X and Instagram, alongside short-form videos like YouTube Shorts.
Users will be able to follow creators and publishers directly in Discover, with a dedicated space for their content.
The rollout is gradual, with social content inclusion arriving in the coming weeks.
